Indiana outfielder Grant Richardson was named a third-team preseason All-American by D1Baseball.com on Monday.
It’s Richardson’s third preseason All-America honor. He was named to the first team by College Baseball Newspaper and Perfect Game.
In 14 games in his sophomore season before the season was cancelled due to COVID in March, Richardson produced a .424/.453/.797 slash line with 25 hits, eight doubles, two triples, five home runs and 17 RBIs in 59 at-bats. As a freshman in 2019, the 6-foot-2, 186-pound left-hander slashed .264/.335/.491 with nine home runs and 37 RBIs.
Named the Preseason Player of the Year in the Big Ten, Richardson highlighted Hoosiers that earned preseason conference honors from Perfect Game last week. He was joined on the preseason All-Big Ten team by pitchers Gabe Bierman and Connor Manous.
Pitcher McCade Brown was named the No. 1 prospect in the Big Ten for the 2021 MLB Draft by Perfect Game, while Richardson was ranked No. 5. Outfielder Cole Barr came in at No. 14, while Manous was No. 39.
Indiana finished 9-6 in the 2020 season and is ranked No. 14 in Perfect Game’s Top 25. Its 2021 schedule has not yet been released. The Hoosiers were also selected by Perfect Game to win the conference in 2021.
