Indiana baseball righthander Jack Perkins was selected by the Oakland A’s in the fifth round of the MLB Draft on Monday afternoon.
The 6-foot-1 Kokomo, Ind. product became the 11th pitcher in Indiana history to reach the 90-strikeout mark in 2022. He appeared in 16 games with 15 starts on the mound and collected three wins on the 2022 season. He was the No. 2 starter for first three starts then moved into Friday night role.
Perkins finished No. 10 on the IU single season charts in strikeouts (91) after transferring from the University of Louisville.
Perkins was the No. 154 overall selection. Coming out of Kokomo H.S., he was previously selected in the 39th round of the 2018 Major League Baseball Draft by the Atlanta Braves.
Indiana has now had 41 players drafted in the last ten years and 111 all-time.
