Indiana faced its first unfamiliar competition on Sunday afternoon when the Hoosiers played against Marquette in a closed scrimmage at Bankers Life Fieldhouse in Indianapolis.
IU lost the scrimmage by a final score of 72-69.
The Hoosiers were led by freshman Armaan Franklin with 14 points. Four IU players scored in double figures.
Projected starting guards Devonte Green and Rob Phinisee did not play due to what is being described as minor injuries according to Jeff Goodman of Stadium. Neither player participated in Hoosier Hysteria activities.
Joining Franklin scoring in double figures were Trayce Jackson-Davis, Joey Brunk and Al Durham, each with 11 points.
With only two of four scholarship guards available to play, IU committed 16 turnovers on the afternoon and had only 12 assists. Marquette was able to generate 13 points off of IU’s turnovers.
The Hoosiers shot 45.5% from the field overall including 50% (5 of 10) from three point range. IU held Marquette to 38.6% from the field.
IU earned 43 free throw attempts on the day but made just 24 (55.8%).
