It seems appropriate new IU basketball coach Darian DeVries’ first stop on the high school recruiting trail was the Indiana high school state finals.
DeVries came for the evening session featuring the Class 3A and 4A contests and is seated courtside.
There are several interesting IU connections and recruiting prospects playing in the finals.
The 2A game included Josh Henderson, the son of IU great Alan Henderson. Josh Henderson plays for University H.S. in Carmel, Ind.
The 3A game includes Crispus Attucks forward Dezmon Briscoe, a former Iowa commit who DeVries could choose to get involved with. DeVries recruited Briscoe when he was the head coach at Drake. Attucks plays South Bend St. Joseph.
The 4A game features former IU player Sherron Wilkerson, the head coach of Jeffersonville. The Red Devils have a pair of Division I players, including Northwestern bound Tre Singleton, and Wright State bound Michael Cooper.
Jeffersonville will play Fishers H.S. The defending champion Tigers feature 2027 guard Jason Gardner, Jr., a player offered by the previous staff who DeVries will almost certainly choose to pursue as well.
DeVries was seen chatting with former IU player and current Ball State coach Michael Lewis. DeVries was seated next to his former West Virginia assistant Nick Norton, who is likely to be named an assistant at IU. He was also talking to Cincinnati assistant Drew Adams, an Indiana native with deep ties in the state.
