For the second time in as many days, an IU basketball shooting guard has entered the transfer portal.
Redshirt junior Parker Stewart is the latest member of the Indiana backcourt to test the waters for other opportunities as the Hoosiers go through a head coach change.
Stewart told Jeff Goodman of Stadium he will continue to consider Indiana as an option.
“Will still consider Indiana depending on the coach, but looking for spot to play this year,” Goodman wrote on Twitter after conversing with Stewart.
The 6-foot-5 Stewart announced his transfer from Tennessee Martin to Indiana in December and never appeared in a game.
Stewart joined the Indiana program in January, but because of protocols for his intake into the program — some involving COVID-19 — his integration on to the roster was a slow process.
After averaging 9.1 points per game as a freshman at Pittsburgh in 2017-18, Stewart injured his hip and took a year off, but scored 19.2 points per game as a redshirt sophomore at Tennessee Martin. He hit 71 3-pointers in each of his two college seasons.
Stewart lost his father, who was the head coach at Tennessee Martin, prompting the transfer in 2020.
Stewart was expected to be part of a dynamic duo of shooting guards next season, but it is now possible that neither will be on the roster. Guard Armaan Franklin placed his name in the portal on Tuesday. In a more widely expected move, Al Durham, Jr. also put his name in the transfer portal last week.
