THREE KEYS TO THE GAME
1. A ridiculous first half. ESPN Stats said Indiana’s 28-point halftime deficit was their largest halftime deficit at home in the last 25 seasons. Indiana looked like a Division II program playing Illinois in a pregame exhibition as the lead swelled to as much as 30 before the break. The Illini made eight first half threes and were plus-11 on the glass at halftime. Most of the student section left before halftime.
2. Three-point disparity. Illinois made 11 threes and outscored the Hoosiers by 21 points from beyond the arc. Before some late threes by IU in garbage time, that margin from three was 30 well into the second half, as IU started the game 0-of-13 from deep, and the Illini made 10 over roughly that same span.
3. Rebounding margin. The Illini outrebounded Indiana 51-37 overall. Illinois grabbed 16 offensive rebounds and scored 19 second chance points. 10 of those offensive rebounds and 17 of the second chance points came in the first half, as Illinois put the game away.
