For our final nonconference opponent preview, we take a look at the Miami (Ohio) Redhawks.
The game will tip on Friday, Dec. 6 at Simon Skjodt Assembly Hall in Bloomington. The time and television details have not yet been announced.
Bart Torvik’s 2024-25 preseason projections slot Miami as the No. 240 overall team. Torvik likes the Redhawk defensive outlook better than the offense, projecting them to land in the No. 203 and No. 253 spots in adjusted efficiency, respectively.
Redhawks head coach Travis Steele has Indiana ties. He is a Danville, Ind. native, went to Butler, and served as an assistant at Ben Davis H.S. in Indianapolis.
Steele joined the Hoosiers in August of 2006, taking on the duties of video coordinator. He was with the program for three years and was elevated to an assistant coach for the remainder of the 2008 season after Kelvin Sampson’s contract was terminated as a result of NCAA recruiting violations.
The 2024-25 season will be Steele’s third in charge of Miami. He has amassed a 27-37 record thus far. He was previously the head coach at Xavier for four seasons. IU assistant Brian Walsh was a player at Xavier (2009 and 2010) when Steele was on staff there prior to his becoming head coach.
Miami lost their top four scorers from a year ago.
The Miami roster includes 6-5 Carmel, Ind. guard Peter Suder (10.5 ppg at Bellarmine), a player IU evaluated as a recruiting prospect. Also on the roster is 6-foot-9 Rutgers transfer Antwone Woolfolk (3.3 ppg), a player who had a memorable on-court incident with IU guard Xavier Johnson last season.
The Redhawk roster also includes Xavier 6-6 transfer wing Kam Craft (2.6 ppg), 6-1 guard Mekhi Cooper (6.3 ppg), 6-6 wing Eian Elmer (7 ppg), and 7-1 center Reece Potter (6 ppg).
Indiana leads the all-time series with Miami 22-3. They last met in 2022 in a game played in Indianapolis. The Hoosiers won that one, 86-56. Miami’s last win in the series came in 1983, when Ron Harper, Sr. dropped 26 points on Bob Knight’s Hoosiers in an upset win.
