Indiana will conclude their 2024-25 nonconference slate with a home game against Winthrop during the week between Christmas Day and New Year’s Eve.
The Sunday, Dec. 29 contest will take place at Simon Skjodt Assembly Hall, with the tip-time still to be announced.
According to Bart Torvik’s preseason rankings, Winthrop is in the middle-of-the-pack nationally, coming in at No. 174 out of 364 teams. Torvik’s model likes Winthrop’s offense (No. 145) better than their defense (No. 214).
Winthrop returns 60.2% of their minutes from a season ago. They are the 69th most experienced team in the nation.
The Eagles return their four leading scorers from a year ago. Those four seniors are expected to lead the way for head coach Mark Prosser’s Big South squad:
- Kasen Harrison (6-foot-2 guard, 11.3 ppg in 2023-24)
- Kelton Talford (6-foot-7 forward, 14.1 ppg)
- Nick Johnson (6-foot-4 guard, 10.4 ppg)
- K.J. Doucet (6-foot-7 forward, 12.4 ppg)
Winthrop finished the 2023-24 season 17-15 overall, and 8-8 in the Big South Conference. They were ranked No. 163 by Torvik at the end of the year.
Prosser is entering his fourth year as head coach. He has a 55-41 overall record at Winthrop, including a 23-9 debut season. He arrived at Winthrop after three season as head coach at Western Carolina. Prosser is the son of the late Skip Prosser, the former head coach at Xavier and Wake Forest.
The game will be the first ever meeting between Indiana and the Rock Hill, S.C. based school. Winthrop has seen multiple runs of high-level play, including under coach Gregg Marshall, who went on to Wichita State, and Pat Kelsey, who is the current Louisville head coach.
