Indiana (14-13, 6-10) will return to action on Tuesday when they host Wisconsin.
THREE KEYS TO THE GAME
1. Threes and frees, rinse and repeat. You’ve heard this story many times before. Indiana didn’t make a three until there was 1:35 left in the game, and the Hoosiers made just 14-of-25 (56 percent) from the free throw line. Indiana finished the game 2-of-15 from three, and eight of their nine misses at the foul line came in the second half.
2. What’s the problem? Penn State had no issues with 3-pointers and free throws. The Nittany Lions were 9-of-21 from three and made 26-of-30 from the stripe. Overall Penn State outscored IU by 33 in total on threes and free throws. That more than offset IU’s 64 percent performance from two-point range, and 50-28 advantage in the paint.
3. Ware in foul trouble. Indiana big man Kel’el Ware spent a lot of time on the bench in foul trouble. He sat the final five minutes of the first half with two fouls, and picked up two more in the first three minutes of the second half. That took him out of the game for nearly 12 straight minutes. IU was up two when he picked up his second foul in the first half. Ware was very effective in his limited action, scoring 16 points and grabbing eight rebounds in 22 minutes.
