One of Indiana’s top class of 2021 recruiting targets is starting the process of narrowing things down.
5-star Missouri based shooting guard/wing Aminu Mohammed is targeting dates both to cut down his list of potential college landing spots, and to ultimately announce his decision.
A source tells The Daily Hoosier that Mohammed is likely to announce a list cut in August. The Daily Hoosier expects IU to be one of the teams that Mohammed continues to evaluate as a potential college destination.
Indiana has been one of the schools showing the most interest in Mohammed for several months. The IU coaching staff has been in regular contact with Zoom meetings and other methods, and they have made it clear that Mohammed is a priority target.
The Hoosiers offered the 6-foot-4 Mohammed a scholarship last summer. He attended the Maryland game in Bloomington while in town for an unofficial visit in January.
The messaging from the IU coaching staff to Mohammed has been consistent over the last few months.
“He (Archie Miller) thinks that if they can add Aminu to go along with (2021 point guard commit) Khristian Lander, he thinks that would be one of the most talented backcourts in the country,” Mohammed’s guardian Shawn Harmon told The Daily Hoosier back in April.
Harmon also indicated on Twitter on Monday morning that Mohammed is likely to announce his final college decision on one of two dates this winter.
“The fans of Springfield Mo are a great fanbase and we have decide to make a commitment announcement at the Greenwood Blue and Gold or the Bass Pro Tournament of Champions this year if those events still take place,” Harmon said in his tweet.
For reference, the 2019 Blue and Gold Tournament was in late December, and the 2020 Bass Pro Tournament was in mid-January.
Mohammed averaged 34.8 points, 15.7 rebounds, 3.6 assists and 2.5 blocks per game to lead Greenwood Laboratory School to a 26-4 mark for the 2019-20 campaign.
Some of the other top schools that have been involved in Mohammed’s recruitment to this point include Louisville, Maryland, Kansas State, Georgetown, Oklahoma State, Wake Forest, Georgia and Pittsburgh.
