One 2024 domino is set to fall on Sept. 14.
Class of 2024 4-star guard Jaeden Mustaf will announce his college decision on that date, he told Joe Tipton of On3.
Since narrowing his recruitment in the spring, Mustaf has been focusing on Indiana, Maryland, Florida State, Georgia Tech, Arkansas and N.C. State. He’s visited four of those programs and is scheduled to visit his father’s alma mater Maryland in early September.
Mustaf visited Indiana in June and walked away impressed with Mike Woodson and the IU program.
“Indiana, that’s a blue blood program,” Mustaf told The Daily Hoosier after his official visit to Bloomington. “That’s one of the best basketball programs in history, so that part speaks for itself. And then Coach Woodson, he played in college and the NBA, and then he coached in the NBA, so he’s done it at every level. The history, and him being who he is, that all stands out.”
Mustaf is listed as a combo guard. He has a similar height and frame as Jalen Hood-Schifino, and he liked how IU utilized the one-and-done guard, who was drafted by the Los Angeles Lakers in the first round.
The 6-foot-5 Mustaf is a 4-star, and currently ranked No. 40 overall in the 2024 class according to the On3 Industry Average.
He shared his latest thoughts on Indiana Wednesday with 247Sports national analyst Dushawn London.
“Mike Woodson was a NBA coach who coached some of the best players,” Mustaf told London. “I have a great relationship with the whole coaching staff and I know Gabe Cupps and some other players as well. They recently had Jalen Hood-Schifino who is similar in size and plays the same position. They got him first round this year and they had a great season this year. Their fans is probably the craziest fans I’ve seen and that plays a big part in this. My visit there was also amazing.”
Indiana does not currently have any commits in the class of 2024. Shooting guard Austin Swartz, Mustaf was AAU teammates with Swartz for the Boo Williams program on the Nike EYBL Circuit.
Montverde product Liam McNeeley and Derik Queen are both scheduled to visit IU Sept. 8-10, just before Mustaf’s decision date.
All three players scheduled to visit would be complimentary to Mustaf’s skillset. Also on Wednesday, 2024 wing Tyler Betsey included IU in his top-seven schools. He’ll decide in October.
