The college careers of Indiana freshmen Jalen Hood-Schifino and Malik Reneau are off to fast starts, and that sends a strong message to younger prospects at Montverde Academy, the program that sent the pair to Bloomington.
After a wave of 2024 visitors from the Florida school, the first class of 2025 Montverde prospect to visit the IU campus will be 6-foot-6 shooting guard Bryce Heard.
Heard reported on his social media accounts he plans to visit Indiana on Friday.
According to the On3 Consensus, Heard is the No. 29 overall player in the 2025 class, and the No. 10 shooting guard.
From Chicago, Heard transferred from Kenwood Academy to Montverde during the offseason. He plays at the national prep school powerhouse with fellow IU targets Derik Queen, Liam McNeeley and Asa Newell. The IU staff has checked in on all of their Montverde targets on multiple visits to the school over the last few months.
With length and versatility on both ends of the floor, Heard has all of the attributes coach Mike Woodson looks for in a wing player.
For spring and summer basketball, Heard plays with the Chicago-based Mac Irvin Fire program.
At the high major level, Heard has offers so far from Illinois, Cal, St. John’s, Oklahoma, Georgetown and Arizona State. He has visited Illinois.
Heard’s visit will coincide with an IU basketball matinee the day after Thanksgiving. Indiana hosts Jackson State at 12:30 p.m. Eastern Friday.
