Class of 2021 wing James Graham III has gone from relative unknown to prized recruiting target during the pandemic.
According to multiple reports, including Jake Weingarten and Jake Lieberman on Twitter, Indiana is one of more than a dozen schools that has gotten involved with Graham during the last few months.
The 6-foot-8 Graham led Nicolet High School in Milwaukee to a 22-3 record before the state playoffs were canceled due to the pandemic.
Graham averaged 20.2 points per game and 6.6 rebounds while shooting 53 percent for the 2019-20 campaign.
Good film from that productive season has spurred a relative explosion in Graham’s recruitment.
The tape shows versatility combined with length, the ability to score inside and out, toughness, and athleticism.
But what has likely piqued the interest of most schools including IU is Graham’s offensive efficiency, especially from the perimeter.
Graham shot 61 percent from 2-point range and 44 percent from three-point range. And that latter number was no fluke. Graham had more than five attempts from deep per game as a junior.
According to the 247Sports Composite, Graham is No. 151 nationally in the class of 2021. But much like his recruitment, Graham has seen a big jump in the rankings. In 247Sports’ own in-house rankings, Graham has jumped from unranked to No. 57 nationally.
For AAU, Graham is playing this summer for Wisconsin Playground Club in Under Armour’s Association
Graham has said in multiple reports that he would like to commit before his senior season.
Indiana will have catching up to do if they want to get serious against now heavy competition.
In total Graham has accumulated nearly twenty new offers in the last few months.
Florida State, Marquette, Maryland, Michigan State, Milwaukee, Vanderbilt, Michigan, Auburn, Cincinnati, Wake Forest, Xavier, and Butler are some of the main schools involved.
