This is a week for new class of 2022 names to emerge on the recruiting radar of college basketball programs. Along those lines, a handful of incoming juniors with interest from IU have surfaced over the last couple days.
Yesterday we briefly profiled Illinois forward A.J. Casey, and today we look at Milwaukee area based small forward Leon Bond.
Evan Flood of 247Sports reported on Monday that IU reached out to Bond.
A 6-foot-5 wing for Wauwatosa East High School, Bond is a high level athlete that plays with an attacking mentality. He has good ball handling skills for a wing and finishes well at the rim. Bond can defend multiple positions and shows really good instincts as a shot blocker.
Bond plays AAU basketball for the JH1 Elite program founded by former IU star Jordan Hulls.
A player with a very high upside as an upperclassman, Bond averaged 11.8 points and 5.7 rebounds per game for Wauwatosa East during the 2019-20 season.
Marquette, Wisconsin, Virginia, Southern Illinois and Miami (Ohio) are some of the other programs that have been involved in Bond’s recruitment. He is not yet ranked by the major recruiting services.
Below are two videos of Bond from this season by 247Sports. Bond is No. 30 in white.
Note: The big man you see in these videos on Bond’s team is IU football recruiting target Marcus Mbow. The player on the other team in the second video is class of 2021 top-five 5-star Patrick Baldwin, Jr.
