Less than a week removed from his Indiana official visit, class of 2023 4-star guard Jakai Newton is ready to announce a verbal commitment.
The 6-foot-3 and 190 pound combo guard from Covington, Ga. is down to Indiana, Georgia and Vanderbilt.
He will make his announcement live on CBS Sports HQ on Friday at 3:00 p.m. Eastern.
Newton left Bloomington very impressed with Indiana’s coaching staff and in particular head coach Mike Woodson.
“His experience is just crazy, and he’s just such a humble person,” Newton told The Daily Hoosier. “It was just crazy talking to him, he’s just like a regular person, super humble, respectful, he’s just like a super cool guy, his relationship with his players, he just seems like a really good person to have as your coach.”
If he chooses IU, Newton would be the first commit in the class of 2023.
According to the 247Sports Composite, Newton is the No. 67 player nationally in his class and the No. 12 combo guard.
Indiana offered Newton in June. Assistant coach Yasir Rosemond is leading the recruitment for IU.
