The quest to replenish the frontcourt has taken Indiana to a now familiar place — the basketball hotbed that is the state of Georgia.
There the staff is taking a close look at 6-foot-8 forward/center from Grayson H.S. (Loganville, Ga.) Jayden Williams. IU had multiple coaches in attendance for some of his games at the Adidas 3SSB stop in Rock Hill, S.C. last week.
Williams is listed as a 5-star prospect and the No. 11 player overall in the class of 2024.
For spring and summer basketball, Williams plays for the Atlanta Celtics on the Adidas 3SSB Circuit. That’s the same team IU freshman Kaleb Banks played for.
Williams has achieved his high rankings because of his length (plus-five wingspan) and athleticism, which makes him a force in the paint on both ends of the floor. He can also step out and make the occasional 3-pointer as well as guard on the perimeter, and he is developing into a player who can attack off the bounce.
From the high major ranks, Williams has offers so far from Xavier, Missouri, Mississippi State, Georgia Tech, Georgetown, Florida and Auburn.
IU assistant coach Yasir Rosemond is taking the lead on this recruitment.
