Update: Indiana offered Newell on his visit on Monday. The original story follows.

Indiana will have a prospect from a familiar high school program in for an unofficial visit on Monday.
On3’s Joe Tipton is reporting 2024 forward Asa Newell will take an unofficial visit to IU. Newell was already in Indiana for the Crossroads Invitational camp this weekend.
The 6-foot-9 power forward attended Fort Walton Beach (Fla.) Choctawhatchee as a sophomore, but he has transferred to national prep powerhouse Montverde Academy. Newell averaged 14 points and 8.7 rebounds as a sophomore.
Newell is currently ranked No. 37 in the 2024 class according to the 247Sports Composite. He is the No. 5 power forward among incoming juniors according to that outlet.
For spring and summer basketball, Newell plays for 1 Family Grassroots. He debuted at No. 33 in the Rivals rankings in February and drew this review from national analyst Rob Cassidy:
“He hits the summer circuit with the 1 Family Grassroots organization this offseason and showcases his jumper, ability to run the floor and defensive prowess in front of scouts and coaches. Newell has one of the more well-rounded skill sets in the class and could see his stock rise even higher soon,” Cassidy wrote.
On film Newell shows inside-out ability, with a smooth lefthanded jump shot with range out to the 3-point line, and the ability to score in the paint as well. Newell appears to be a high-energy player who runs the floor hard, rebounds and buys in on the defensive end.
So far Newell has offers from Alabama, Arkansas, Georgia Tech, Illinois, Oklahoma State, Ole Miss and Wake Forest.
Newell’s brother Jaden is a walk-on at Georgia.
