We reported on Friday that Aminu Mohammed would be setting a firm announcement date this weekend.
And now the timing is clear.
According to a report today by 247Sports national reporter Eric Bossi, Mohammed will announce next Monday.
“A commitment date will be December 21st,” Bossi wrote.
Indiana has been involved with Mohammed since the summer of 2019, and he visited the IU campus in January.
Mohammed’s guardian Shawn Harmon told The Daily Hoosier in October that a January early enrollment is possible.
That option is still on the table, but Harmon told Bossi that Mohammed intends to play out his high school season if it proceeds without interruption due to the COVID-19 pandemic.
Mohammed is a five-star rated recruit and currently the No. 16 player overall in the 2021 class according to the 247Sports Composite.
Georgia, Georgetown, Texas, Kansas State and DePaul have all been involved recently along with IU. Georgia appears to be the most legitimate threat to secure Mohammed at this time.
The 6-foot-4 Mohammed is an elite scorer and high level athlete who uses his strength to attack the basket and finish at the rim.
While Indiana is one of the few schools that Mohammed visited, he told The Daily Hoosier in October that relationships would be the key factor in his decision.
“Just by me seeing them (Indiana) one time, that’s good, but at the end of the day it is the relationship that you have with the coach that is key,” he said.
