Indiana has offered New York based class of 2024 5-star point guard Boogie Fland, according to a report by Eric Bossi, a national analyst with 247Sports.
Fland’s given first name is Johnuel but he is commonly known as Boogie, a nickname he earned because of his dance moves as a young boy.
According to the 247Sports Composite, Fland is a 5-star, the No. 13 overall player in the 2024 class, and the No. 2 point guard. He is the first point guard IU has offered in the 2024 class.
Fland attends Stepinac H.S. in White Plains, N.Y. That is the same school that produced 2020 IU target R.J. Davis, who ended up at North Carolina. According to MaxPreps, Fland averaged 14.4 points, 5.0 rebounds, 2.7 assists and 1.9 steals per game as a sophomore.
The 6-foot-3 Fland has high-end speed and is very good playing an up-tempo style. He is a scoring point guard who is skilled at all three levels, and Fland is an impactful on the ball defender as well.
For spring and summer basketball, Fland plays for the 16u PSA Cardinals on the Nike EYBL circuit, where he teams with fellow IU 2024 target Yves Missi.
As you’d expect for a player of his stature, Fland has a long list of high major offers, including Kansas, Oregon, Michigan, LSU, Georgia, Connecticut, Illinois, Miami, Pittsburgh, St. John’s, UCLA and Virginia Tech. According to Bossi’s report, Fland will take visits to some of the more local East Coast schools this month.
Assistant coach Kenya Hunter has been the point person for Indiana in the past on most Indiana PSA Cardinals/East Coast prospects.
