With the all three IU assistants watching at the NBPA top-100 camp in Orlando, Indiana saw enough to offer class of 2024 big man James Brown.
The Chicago product announced the offer on his social media pages on Thursday evening.
The 6-foot-10, 220-pound rising junior from St. Rita H.S. is ranked No. 27 nationally in the 2024 class according to the 247Sports Composite. The 4-star prospect is the No. 5 center in the nation according to that same outlet.
Brown is regarded as a highly-skilled and efficient big man on the block who can score over either shoulder, step-out and shoot jumpers, and handle the ball in the open court. He is high-motor competitor who runs the floor well and protects the rim, and Brown is very intelligent, with Ivy League offers to show for it.
As a sophomore, Brown averaged 13.5 points, 10 rebounds, and 2.3 blocks per game for St. Rita, while shooting 67 percent from the field.
For spring and summer basketball Brown plays for the Chicago-based Meanstreets program on the Nike EYBL circuit. He’s averaging 10.5 points, and 5.3 rebounds per game, on 65 percent shooting in AAU action.
In addition to Indiana, Brown has offers from North Carolina, Michigan, Notre Dame, Ohio State, Marquette, Oklahoma, Nebraska, Texas A&M, Texas Tech, Arizona State, Missouri, Providence, DePaul, LSU, Florida, Wisconsin, and Harvard, among others.
Brown’s high school and AAU teammate Morez Johnson is already committed to Illinois. Indiana is also looking at Brown’s St. Rita and Meanstreets teammate Nojus Indrusaitis.
