IU basketball recruiting: Hoosiers offer 2025 point guard Mikel Brown

He isn’t big or tall and still looks very young, but none of that is stopping high majors from jumping in on 2025 point guard Mikel Brown, Jr.

Indiana was the latest to enter the mix on Friday when they offered Brown after the IU staff had multiple chances to see him live during Adidas 3SSB action in Rock Hill, S.C.

Brown is just 5-foot-11 and likely well under 150 pounds, but he already has offers from Seton Hall, Maryland, Florida, Texas A&M, Auburn, and Baylor.  He doesn’t appear in the early rankings for 2025, but that should change with the next round of updates.

Hailing from Florida, Brown played his freshman season of high school basketball at Orlando (Fla.) Christian Prep.  He’ll play with Sunrise Christian Academy, part of the elite NIBC conference, going forward.  For spring and summer basketball Brown plays for Southeast Elite on the Adidas circuit.  He is playing up two years with the 17u team.

247Sports national analyst Travis Branham described Brown in a recent writeup.

“He’s a skilled and savvy guard who creates scoring opportunities for himself and others and coming from a pair of former athletes, it will only be a matter of time before his body catches up to his skillset,” Branham wrote.

Eric Bossi, another 247Sports national analyst, also described Brown after watching him this spring.

“The slim 5-foot-11 floor general was in total command and looked like the best player on the floor. He’s a skillful ball handler, alert passer, changes speeds and if you let him get a clean look from deep then odds are somebody on your team is going to be taking the ball out because he’s going to bury it,” Bossi wrote.

Brown’s father played college basketball (West Florida, USC Aiken) and his mother played at the high school level according to the 247Sports report.  His father is around 6-foot or 6-foot-1 according to rosters for those schools.

Indiana’s offer list for the rising sophomore class has grown to nine players.  For a complete recap of Indiana’s 2023 through 2025 prospects and targets, GO HERE.
