Indiana has formally entered the mix for the top-ranked player in the class of 2025 from the state of Kentucky.
Jasper Johnson announced an offer from IU on his Instagram page on Thursday evening.
Best thought of as a combo-guard, Johnson is the No. 26 overall player in the 2025 class according to the On3 Industry Average.
The 6-foot-4 Johnson took multiple gameday visits to IU during the 2022-23 season.
Johnson is also a quarterback for his Woodford County high school football team. His 6-foot-7 father Dennis Johnson played defensive end for the University of Kentucky and three years in the NFL. His uncle played football at Ohio State.
Kentucky has offered Johnson and he lives 15 minutes from the UK campus. Arizona State, California, Cincinnati, Louisville, Memphis, Missouri, Texas A&M, West Virginia and Xavier have also offered.
Johnson averaged 20.1 points for his Woodford County team and helped lead them to the Kentucky State Tournament semifinals.
For spring and summer basketball, Johnson plays up a year for Team Thad on the Nike EYBL circuit. In 16 games he’s averaging 12.3 points, 3.2 rebounds and 2.5 assists over 22.6 minutes per game. His shooting splits are 51 percent overall, 40.3 percent from three on 67 attempts, and 83.3 percent from the line.
