While he was on a visit to IU on Saturday, the staff offered class of 2026 point guard Tay Kinney.
Kinney announced the offer on his social media accounts.
The 6-foot Kinney attends Newport H.S. in Newport, Ky. For spring and summer basketball he played last year for the All Ohio Red 15u team on the Nike EYBL circuit.
This season the sophomore is averaging 18.6 points per game on 49 percent shooting overall including 43 percent from three (on 112 attempts). As a freshman at Newport, Kinney averaged 13.9 points per game. He shot 47 percent from the field overall and 36 percent three.
Kinney was fifth among those in the 15s division in scoring at 17.5 points a game at the Nike EYBL Peach Jam last summer. He also had 4.2 assists and 3.5 rebounds a game.
247Sports ranks Kinney as the No. 56 overall player in the early rankings for the 2026 class and the No. 8 point guard.
Other high majors that have offered Kinney include Notre Dame, Purdue, Illinois, Ohio State, Xavier, Texas A&M, Louisville and Cincinnati.
This was Kinney’s second visit to IU. He was also an attendee at Hoosier Hysteria in October.
