Basketball recruiting news continues to pour in from events across the country as AAU action is coming to an end and the top players in the class of 2025 are pivoting to list cuts and visits.
You’ve known about 2025 center Malachi Moreno’s September Indiana visit for a while.
Multiple outlets reported this week his visit list has swelled to five schools:
- Ohio St- 9/6
- North Carolina- 9/13
- Indiana- 9/20
- Arkansas- 10/4
- Kentucky- 10/11
Moreno says he also wants to visit the other three schools in his top eight — Iowa, Louisville and Notre Dame — but it won’t come as a surprise if the five scheduled are the only visits he takes.
In a story from Jamie Shaw of On3 this week, Moreno said Indiana’s early involvement in his recruitment means something to him.
“They hopped on me quickly and I took pride that they wanted me even before I was fully developed and they think I can get so much better,” Moreno told Shaw.
Look for Moreno to make a decision in October.
2025 power forward Bryson Tiller has been off the floor lately with an ankle injury. His recruitment has been quiet, but he told national 247Sports reporter Eric Bossi this week he’ll turn back to his recruiting in the weeks to come and take some more visits. He doesn’t have anything set up just yet.
Tiller took a visit to IU in December and the staff would like to get him back for a senior year official visit. Tiller talked to The Daily Hoosier in February about his Indiana visit.
“The atmosphere was amazing,” Tiller said. “How they play is amazing. They run an NBA style. Coach Woodson obviously has years of experience. It was a really good visit. I enjoyed my time there.”
Meanwhile three guards we’ve had listed for months as part of Indiana’s main group of targets in the class of 2025 appear to be trending unfavorably.
Michigan-based guard Trey McKenney announced through multiple outlets six visits upcoming this summer and fall. Indiana is not on the list. He told TDH in May IU would likely make his list cut, but in multiple reports over the last week he hasn’t mentioned the Hoosiers.
New Jersey-based guard Darius Adams also announced six visits for the summer and fall and didn’t include IU. He said the six schools he’s visiting have made him a priority.
Finally, Kiyan Anthony, son of Carmelo, indicated IU has not been heavily involved in his recruitment of late. He said the following to Joe Tipton of On3:
“They’re still recruiting me, but not as hard as they were. I feel like Coach Woody is just trying to figure it out. But they’re still on my list so I’m just waiting on them to reach out and whatnot.”
None of McKenney, Adams or Anthony have formally announced a list of final schools. So Indiana may not be completely out of those recruitments just yet. But with these latest developments we’ve moved all three off the main list of targets for 2025.
Meanwhile, we’ve moved up 2025 center Eric Reibe to the main list, as Indiana appears to have some momentum and a nice fit for the surging big man.
