Indiana offered class of 2024 wing Annor Boateng in April and they’ve been in regular contact since.
The 6-foot-5 Boateng is ranked No. 25 nationally in the rising senior class according to the On3 Consensus. The big, strong, physical wing has turned into a good perimeter shooter, and that complements his high end ability to play through contact, finish at the rim, facilitate and defend.
The Daily Hoosier caught up with the Little Rock, Ark. product in Rock Hill, S.C. at the Adidas 3SSB Championships to discuss the latest on his recruitment and current thoughts on Indiana. He’s one of a handful of mystery prospects who Indiana offered relatively late and hasn’t been covered a great deal. So we thought we’d try to find out where he’s at in his process of choosing a college. Here’s our quick Q&A:
——————————–
TDH: With your hectic schedule, how focused have you been on recruiting to this point?
Boateng – Yeah, I’m focused on it, and I’ve been trying to cut down on schools recently because it’s getting near that decision time. I have been focused on it, but I don’t try to let it worry me to much. But I have been thinking about it and even before I came here, me and my parents, we talked about it, and I’m probably going to release something soon with a list cut.
TDH: How many schools do you think you’ll cut down to? And what’s next from there?
Boateng – Probably eight or nine, and those will be the main ones I’ll focus on. Yeah, we’ve actually talked about official visits to multiple schools, Stanford, Missouri, Arkansas, Virginia Tech, those are some of the possibilities. We’re definitely looking at official visits coming up soon.
TDH: Is Indiana a school that you’re considering taking a visit to?
Boateng – Yes sir, I am. I actually talked to coach (Brian) Walsh before I even came here. So yeah, they’re definitely a school I’m considering a visit to.
TDH: What do you know about the Indiana program?
Boateng – I’m still learning about them. I know they had a draft pick recently (Jalen Hood-Schifino). I’ve seen him play a couple times. And then also one of my friends, (Indiana center) Kel’el Ware, he’s a hometown friend. He’s having a good time there and I know I probably would too.
TDH: Who else do you talk to from IU?
Boateng – I have talked to Coach Woodson. We have been in contact recently.
TDH: How are the conversations going with Indiana? Do you like their message?
Boateng – It’s definitely a school I’m considering. They also have talked to my parents a little. And if you’re talking to the head coach now, that’s how you know they’re really engaged and really genuinely trying to recruit you. So as far as my recruitment goes, I am definitely considering them.
TDH: Do you consider yourself a primary ball handler or more of a wing player at the next level?
Boateng – I consider myself more of a wing because that’s where I’m most effective. There are situations where I can bring the ball up, but I mainly thrive on the wing.
