Expect the IU basketball coaching staff to be a fixture at the games of Adidas sponsored Indiana Elite’s 2025 team this spring and summer.
Mike Woodson has or will see the three priority targets on that team this week, and he and his staff should remain heavily involved during the upcoming months.
On Tuesday, class of 2025 7-foot center Malachi Moreno was a guest for the win over Iowa. Moreno has now been on Indiana’s campus several times to this point. He clearly has a heavy interest in the IU program. Watching the development of Trayce Jackson-Davis and Malik Reneau, and witnessing up close Kel’el Ware’s dominant effort on Tuesday should only enhance the appeal.
From Georgetown, Ky., Moreno is ranked No. 38 overall in the 2025 class according to the On3 Industry Average. He’s the No. 3 center in the class. IU will have to hold off schools like Kentucky, Xavier, Cincinnati, Ohio State, Arkansas, Tennessee, Baylor, Notre Dame and Iowa.
As we reported yesterday, Woodson and assistant coach Brian Walsh drove up to Greenfield, Ind. to see 2025 shooting guard Braylon Mullins on Wednesday. You can read more about Mullins and watch his 51-point performance from last weekend here.
Today (Thursday), Woodson and Walsh will travel to southern Indiana to visit forward Trent Sisley. The 6-foot-7 Sisley is a consensus 4-star. He’s ranked No. 59 nationally in his class according to the On3 Industry Average.
Hailing from Heritage Hills H.S. along the Ohio River, Sisley is averaging 24.9 points, 11.4 rebounds, 4.4 assists and 2.2 blocks per game thus far for his junior season. He’s shooting 40 percent from three on 60 attempts (3.5 attempts per game).
As has been the case for a while, Michigan State, Purdue, Notre Dame, Iowa and Wisconsin are the main contenders for Sisley along with IU.
This is Woodson’s second trip to visit Sisley in the last four months, and Sisley has been to Bloomington on numerous occasions.
While nothing is close to being settled, it is safe to call Indiana a strong contender for all three of Moreno, Mullins and Sisley. Positionally, they are three complimentary players for a recruiting class. So if the trio builds chemistry this spring, they could logically all decide to commit to the same college program. That wouldn’t be unprecedented. IU pulled in a trio of Indiana Elite players in the 2020 class when Trey Galloway, Anthony Leal and Khristian Lander all committed.
The 2025 class has a realistic chance to be very strong for Woodson. Along with in-state guards Jalen Haralson and Azavier Robinson, Indiana can build a strong 2025 class with a heavy local flavor.
Illinois based class of 2025 forward Aleks Alston visited IU in September. The 6-foot-9 Alston told DuShawn London in a national 247Sports report Indiana remains in regular contact:
“That relationship has been going well. I’ve been getting a lot of texts from them and I got to make sure I get out to one of their games soon,” Alston told London. “What I like about them is they’ll show me a clip of a certain play and say this is where they can use me. I’m not a one trick pony. I’m not someone who’s going to sit on the perimeter and just shoot threes and they know that. They’ll send me certain things but it’s all around.”
On3’s Joe Tipton has been posting on X about which schools prospects say are recruiting them the hardest right now. When it comes to Indiana, this is an incomplete list but includes 2025s Moreno and Haralson, as you’d expect, along with out-of-state guards Trey McKenney, Tyler Jackson, and Darius Adams.
Collectively, the 2025s mentioned thus far seem to be IU’s primary targets in the class, along with Bryson Tiller and Mikel Brown, who could reclass to 2024, and Darius Acuff and Kiyan Anthony.
OFF THE BOARD:
