Indiana has remained in close contact with class of 2026 forward Gabe Weis since his two visits to Bloomington over the last year.
Weis visited Indiana when the Hoosiers hosted Ohio State in January, and he was also an attendee at Hoosier Hysteria in October.
IU offered the 4-star and national top-75 prospect in January.
And the Washington County, Kentucky product’s trajectory has continued to rise since. Weis announced his transfer from Washington County to Montverde Academy (Fla.) in April. That’s a school IU has had success recruiting, with both Malik Reneau and Jalen Hood-Schifino arriving from the national prep powerhouse.
The 6-foot-7 Weis battled an injury as a sophomore during the 2023-24 boys’ high school basketball season.
He averaged 13.9 points and 8.3 rebounds per game for Washington County (Ky.) during his sophomore campaign while shooting 57.5 percent from the field. He played in 18 of Washington County’s 32 games during the 2023-24 boys’ high school basketball season.
As a freshman in the 2022-23 boys’ high school basketball season, Weis averaged 11.5 points and 7.0 rebounds per game for the Commanders.
Weis caught up with Rivals’ Rob Cassidy earlier this week and spoke about his relationship with the IU staff.
“I’ve already been there twice,” Weis told Cassidy regarding Indiana. “I love that coaching staff. They’re really good people that are passionate about recruiting. Even on Mother’s Day, they were wishing my mom happy Mother’s Day and all that. I reach out to them a lot and they always respond. It’s cool.”
“Assembly Hall is crazy,” Weis told Cassidy. “The fans are ridiculous, it’s just a really good atmosphere there.”
Cincinnati, Illinois, LSU, Iowa, Texas A&M and Nebraska are the other high majors to offer Weis to this point.
