IU basketball will host the South Carolina Gamecocks in a non-conference game on Saturday, Nov. 16, 2024, at Simon Skjodt Assembly Hall, the program said Wednesday via release.
According to a report by Jon Rothstein of CBS Sports, this is not expected to be a home-and-home series, but instead just a lone game in Bloomington.
The time and television designation of the game will be announced at a later date.
The Hoosiers hold a 2-1 series lead over South Carolina. The Gamecocks will return to Bloomington for the first time since an 84-71 Hoosier win on Dec. 22, 1973. Indiana also took down South Carolina by a score of 76-55 on Nov. 8, 1998, in Indianapolis as part of the 1998 Hoosier Classic.
Overall, Indiana is 68-51 against teams currently residing in the Southeastern Conference.
South Carolina took a major step forward in head coach Lamont Paris’ second season in charge, improving from 11-21 to 26-8, including a 13-5 finish in the SEC in 2023-24. The Gamecocks were a No. 6 seed in the NCAA Tournament and lost to Oregon in the first round. They finished the year ranked N0. 54 according to KenPom, with the No. 42 offense and the No. 71 defense.
The Gamecocks lost several key pieces from last year’s team, including Meechie Johnson (14.1 PPG), BJ Mack (13.6 PPG), and Ta’Lon Cooper (9.9 PPG).
Headlining the returning players will be Collin Murray-Boyles (10.4 PPG) and Myles Stute (8.3 PPG).
South Carolina will also welcome notable incoming transfers Jamarii Thomas (16.9 PPG at Norfolk State) and Nick Pringle (6.8 PPG at Alabama), along with top-50 high school recruit Cameron Scott.
Paris has a history in the Big Ten. He served as an assistant at Wisconsin under both Bo Ryan and Greg Gard from 2010-17. He also has Indiana ties. He got a masters degree from Indiana State, and coached two years at DePauw.
The South Carolina game marks the fifth known nonconference game for the 2024-25 season, and the fourth against a high-major opponent. Indiana will also play three games at the Battle 4 Atlantis over Thanksgiving week.
