Kentucky transfer wing Adou Thiero named Indiana to his final five schools on Friday, according to a report by Jeff Borzello of ESPN.
Indiana joins Pittsburgh, Arkansas, Kentucky and North Carolina as Thiero’s finalists.
The odds seem to be a bit stacked against the Hoosiers, with hometown Pitt involved, along with a possible return to Kentucky or the potential to follow John Calipari to Arkansas. Thiero did enter the transfer portal more than a week before Calipari left Kentucky for Arkansas, and IU was in contact right away.
The 6-foot-8 Thiero is regarded as a high-motor wing. He played in 25 games (21.4 minutes per contest), while making 19 starts as a sophomore in 2023-24. He was second on the team with 5.0 rebounds per game and scored 7.2 points per contest. Thiero had the second most blocked shots on the roster with 27, including four games with three or more blocks. He scored in double figures five times and led team in rebounding in eight games. He posted an overall box score plus/minus of +3.6.
Thiero’s 2023-24 shooting splits were 49.2 percent overall, 31.8 percent from three on just 22 attempts, and 80 percent from the free throw line.
IU is not starting from scratch in its pursuit of Thiero. Regarded as a late bloomer in high school, Indiana was one of the first high major programs to identify him and start recruiting Thiero seriously. He visited Bloomington in Feb. 2022, late in his senior year of high school.
IU currently has four roster openings for 2024-25.
