Next up is Indiana State transfer guard and Indianapolis native Ryan Conwell. He helped lead the Sycamore to a memorable 32-7 season that saw them just miss the NCAA Tournament, followed by a run to the NIT championship game.
The 6-foot-4 Conwell was named second-team All-MVC after he averaged 16.6 points, 5.8 rebounds, 2.5 assists and 1.1 steals per game. His shooting splits were 48.2% overall, 60.7% from two, 40.7% from three, and 85.5% at the free throw line. Conwell attempted 268 threes in 2023-24, or more than seven per game. His 60.2 effective field goal percentage was 71st in the nation.
Conwell is clearly one of the best players in the portal. His point over replacement player at the same usage was 4.1, 13th best in the portal, and his box score plus-minus was 11th among those who played at least 50% of their team’s minutes.
Conwell transferred to ISU from South Florida, where played in all 32 games and made 21 starts as a true freshman a year ago. He averaged 18.5 minutes per game and averaged 5.1 points, 1.9 rebounds and 1.9 assists.
At Pike H.S. in Indianapolis, Conwell was named the 2022 Marion County Player of the Year after he averaged 22.6 points, 6.7 rebounds, 3.7 assists and 3.0 steals his senior season.
