As Indiana shows interest in transfer portal prospects we’ll provide a quick profile with our transfer portal names to know series.
Of course we’ll cover prospects more if things progress beyond initial interest.
Next up is a familiar name — Iowa point guard Tony Perkins.
The Indianapolis native was a thorn in Indiana’s side in his last two trips to Bloomington, averaging 22.5 points, 7.0 rebounds and 5.5 assists.
Perkins enjoyed a breakout senior season, after which he was named second-team All-Big Ten. He ranked in the top 17 in the league in scoring (14.5), assists (4.6) and steals (1.7). He was one of seven players nationally to have 450+ points, 140+ assists, 130+ rebounds and 50+ steals. Perkins scored in double figures in 28 games with eight 20-point games.
The 6-foot-4 Perkins had a 14 and and a 15 assist game this season, in Big Ten wins over Nebraska and Northwestern. His 2.4 assist-to-turnover ratio was sixth best in the league.
Perkins’ shooting splits were 43.2 percent from the field overall, 29.9 percent from three, and 78.8 percent at the free throw line.
A high school teammate of C.J. Gunn and IU football wide receiver Donovan McCulley at Lawrence North H.S., Perkins was a 2020 Indiana All-Star. He averaged 18.6 points, 5.6 rebounds, 3.5 assists and 1.8 steals leading Lawrence North to a 25-2 record.
He should have one year of eligibility remaining. His fourth season highlights are below.
