Indiana is in the mix for Northern Colorado transfer wing Dalton Knecht, according to a report from Mountain West Wire’s Sean Paul.
The 6-foot-6 wing spent the past two seasons with the Bears after two seasons at Northeastern Junior College (CO).
A native of Thornton, Colo., Knecht had a tremendous senior campaign for the Bears, leading the Big Sky in scoring with 646 points. His average of 20.2 points per game also led the Big Sky and ranked 23rd in the nation.
Knecht was also second in the Big Sky with 77 three-pointers made. He made multiple threes in 24 games, three or more 14 times and and four or more eight times. On the season he shot 38.3 percent from beyond the arc on 196 attempts, 54.6 percent from two, and 76.4 percent from the free throw line.
Knecht also averaged 7.2 rebounds. His 21.7 percent defensive rebounding rate was No. 138 in the nation. Despite a high usage rate, Knecht took good care of the basketball, only turning it over at a 13.2 percent rate (No. 383 nationally).
As a junior, Knecht averaged 8.9 points (43.6 percent from the field and 36.1 percent shooting from deep), 3.6 rebounds, and 0.9 assists in 24.1 minutes per game.
Knecht is a versatile, modern wing who is athletic and can score from all three levels. He definitely seems to fit what IU needs next season, but he’s also one of the most popular players in the portal right now.
Texas, Gonzaga, Oklahoma State, UCLA, West Virginia, Tennessee, North Carolina, Oregon, Kansas, Arkansas, Missouri, Grand Canyon, LSU, Iowa State, Oklahoma, Utah, Washington, Nebraska, Colorado, Arizona State, Ole Miss, and Illinois are other teams reported to be involved.
He’s never played outside of the state of Colorado, so that does leave you to wonder how far he’s willing to venture this time.
Knecht was a First team NJCAA All-American at Northeastern in 2020-21. He led the team with 23.9 points per game over 20 games.
At Prairie View High School in Thornton, Colorado, Knecht was an unranked prospect.
Knecht has one year of eligibility remaining.
