Indiana is pursuing Sam Houston transfer shooting guard Lamar Wilkerson.
He might be a name familiar to Hoosier fans. Wilkerson played against IU in Bloomington this past season and scored 18 points (8-of-18 from the field overall, 2-of-4 from three), a scoring output that was below his season average.
Wilkerson, a two-time first-team All-CUSA selection, ended the season as the league leader in scoring at 21.2 points per game during conference play for Sam Houston. The senior guard scored in double figures in all 32 games this season and 20 or more points in nine of the 18 league contests.
The 6-foot-5 and 205-pound Wilkerson was one of the best shooters in college basketball this season. He ranked sixth nationally in three-pointers per game (3.41) and eighth in three-point percentage (44.5). He is the first Sam Houston player to average more than 20 points in a season since the program moved up to the Division I level in 1987.
For his three year Division-I career, the Ashdown, Ark. product has scored 1,340 points (14.3 ppg). He has shot 45.3% from the field including 40.3% from three on 511 attempts (5.4 attempts per game).
Wilkerson also has been in contact with Kentucky, Alabama, Duke, Arkansas, Louisville, Kansas and others according to reports.
After transferring to Sam Houston State ahead of the 2022-23 season, Wilkerson, played in 30 games as a sophomore and averaged 7.6 points. As a junior he led the team in scoring at 13.8 points per game and made 52 3-pointers (52-of-150, 34.7 percent).
As a freshman Wilkerson earned honorable mention All-American honors at Three Rivers Community College. There he averaged 16.7 points and 4.5 rebounds per game and shot 41 percent from 3-point range and 43 percent from the floor.
Because of recent rulings that junior college seasons don’t count against eligibility, Wilkerson has one season of eligibility remaining.
