Former Troy guard Tayton Conerway is a new name to know in the transfer portal.
Multiple outlets have reported Conerway is planning to visit Indiana. The 247Sports Indiana site appeared to report that news first.
The 6-foot-3 and 185-pound Texas native has averaged 13 points, 3.7 assists, 3.7 rebounds and 2.5 steal per game over two seasons at Troy since arriving there from the junior college ranks. He has shot 47.3 percent overall, 29.2 percent from three, and 68.9 percent at the stripe during his two seasons at the Division I level.
With Conerway leading the charge, Troy went 23-11 this season, was the Sun Belt’s regular season champion and won its most games since the 2003-04 season.
Named the Sun Belt Player of the Year in 2024-25, Conerway led the team in points (14.2), assists (4.8), steals (2.9) and minutes (30.4). He shot 47.1 percent from the field overall including 27 percent from three. He converted at a 66.4 percent clip at the free throw line.
According to KenPom, Conerway had the No. 3 steal rate in the nation, and the No. 20 assist rate.
In 2023-24 Conerway was named Sun Belt Sixth Man of the Year after he played in all 32 games with two starts and averaged 19.9 minutes. He led all bench scorers and was second on the team in scoring at 11.8 points per game.
Conerway also played three seasons at the junior college level from 2020-23 at Ranger College (2021-23) and Grayson College (2020-21). In 2022-23 he was named to the NJCAA D-1 Men’s Basketball All-American First Team after scoring 15.7 points per game on 48.4 percent shooting from the field and 34.4 percent from 3-point range.
The NCAA recently gave a blanket eligibility waiver for the 2025-26 season for former junior college athletes. So Conerway has at least one year of eligibility remaining, maybe more.
In Conerway’s transfer announcement he said that he was entering the NBA Draft while also maintaining his college eligibility, meaning he would need to remove himself from the draft prior to June 15 to stay in college.
