As Indiana shows interest in transfer portal prospects we’ll provide a quick profile with our transfer portal names to know series.
Of course we’ll cover prospects more if things progress beyond initial interest.
Next up is Wisconsin transfer guard and Indiana native Connor Essegian. There have been multiple reports Essegian is on the IU campus for a visit on Wednesday.
Maryland, South Carolina, Nebraska and Michigan are some of the other schools that have been involved.
Essegian earned Big Ten All-Freshman honors before seeing his playing time drop to 7.3 minutes per game as a sophomore this season when he averaged 3.2 points per game and shot 30.3 percent from three.
The 6-foot-4 Essegian did have some big games in 2024. He scored 12 points off the bench against Nebraska, hitting four triples in 12 minutes. He dropped a season-high 15 points in 24 minutes against Rutgers. And he scored 9 points off the bench against Maryland in the Big Ten Tournament.
Essegian burst onto the scene in his first season at Wisconsin, becoming one of the best freshmen in the Big Ten.
In his debut season, Essegian played in all 35 games (starting the final 19) averaging 11.7 points per game. The Fort Wayne, Indiana native earned Big Ten All-Freshman Team honors. With 69 made 3-pointers on the season, Essegian broke the school record for most made 3-point field goals by a freshman.
One of the most prolific prep scorers in Indiana basketball history, Essegian scored 2,526 career points at Central Noble High School which ranked No. 10 on the all-time scoring list in the state of Indiana. He led Central Noble to the Class 2A state basketball championship game his senior season.
Essegian has two years of eligibility remaining.
