Will the fourth time be the charm when it comes to Indiana and Ryan Conwell?
The 6-foot-4 Indianapolis native is transferring for the third time, seeking his fourth school in four seasons of college basketball.
Conwell started his career at South Florida, and then went to Indiana State and Xavier. His latest decision to transfer follows former Xavier head coach Sean Miller’s decision to leave for Texas. Coaching changes followed all three of Conwell’s college seasons.
His transition from mid-major to high-major was seamless this year, a factor that will make Conwell one of the most coveted players in this transfer portal cycle. Conwell will also test the NBA Draft waters.
In his lone season at Xavier, the Pike H.S. product averaged 16.5 points per game and shot 41.2% from 3-point range. He finished strong by scoring 20 or more points in five consecutive games, capping that stretch with a career-high 38-point effort against Marquette in the Big East Tournament.
Conwell played against IU coach Darian DeVries three times in 2023-24 when both of them were in the Missouri Valley Conference. As a sophomore at Indiana State he finished eighth in the Missouri Valley Conference in scoring at 16.6 points to go with 5.8 rebounds and 2.5 assists. He ranked second in the MVC and 15th in the nation in 3-point field goals with 109 (2.87 per game), fifth in 3-point percentage (.407) and fifth in free-throw percentage (.855).
As a freshman at South Florida, Conwell played in all 32 games, starting 21 times. He averaged 18.4 minutes per game and posted 5.1 points, 1.9 rebounds and 1.9 assists per contest.
Conwell has one year of eligibility remaining. His highlights from each of his last two seasons are below.
