Indiana and the Nittany Lions tip-off at 8:30 p.m. ET on BTN.

    ———————————————————————–

FINAL: Indiana 83, Penn State 78

    SECOND HALF

Another five-point swing towards Indiana, this time it’s Myles Rice doing it himself. 80-73 Hoosiers with 2:32 left.

75-72 Indiana leads with 3:59 in the game.

    • Rice took a nasty hit at the end of that sequence and was slow to get up. Looked like he was holding his back area.
    • Hoosiers strung together a few key stops before the media timeout, and are four of their last five from the field. Still, PSU is keeping it close. A few 50/50 calls from the officiating crew haven’t helped them either.

IU leads 73-69 with 5:12 left.

    • Trey Galloway with a 6-0 run by himself over the last 40 seconds. He’s 3-3 from beyond the arc tonight with 16 total points.

Penn State leads 65-62 with 7:45 left.

    • IU is in serious trouble if they can’t manufacture stops down the stretch. Ace Baldwin has gotten chirped at by the student section all night but has continuously silenced them with 20 points. Practically adding fuel to the fire.
    • Luckily for the Hoosiers, Oumar Ballo is having another solid effort against the Nittany Lions. Up to 17 points, nine rebounds, and five assists. More than likely will have a double-double by the end of the night.

All tied up at 53 with 11:59 in the game.

    • And now both teams have gone cold. PSU has no FGS in their last three and a half minutes, while IU has suffered the same fate in the last two and a half. Neither team wants to pull away yet.
    • Still, it’s pretty much an opposite game compared to the earlier season matchup. Both teams are shooting over 55 percent, whereas Penn State had the higher percentage at 46% earlier in the season.

Nittany Lions lead 49-46 through the first media timeout. 15:42 left in the game.

    • IU is four of their last five from the field but hasn’t shown any improvement on the defensive side. They need to string together a few stops to truly regain momentum. PSU 3-5 from the field to start.
    • Ballo and Mgbako each in double figures with 13 and 11 respectively. Similar story to the last matchup between these two. The only difference is Penn State has found a good amount of offense. I believe they didn’t have a three until the second half at The Palestra.

HALFTIME: Penn State 39, Indiana 37

    FIRST HALF

Knotted up at 29 with 3:20 in the first half.

    • Every Hoosier that has appeared in the game has scored, apart from Hatton. No Bryson Tucker so far tonight yet. I do think Tucker could provide a bit more offensive flexibility for the bench unit, especially with frontcourt depth taking a hit.
    • Both teams are on some nice offensive runs. IU are five of their last seven from the field, and Penn State has made their last three. Making up for a slower start offensively for both teams.

All tied up at 22 with 6:58 in the half.

    • Penn State responded with a 10-0 run out of the break, but the Hoosiers swung back and held them scoreless in the past two minutes. Kanaan Carlyle with back-to-back buckets off the bench.
    • The stats are pretty similar for both teams. Both are in the 50 percent on overall field goal percentage, and both have five turnovers. IU with a slight edge in three-point percentage. Even 50% on the night so far.

IU gains a 17-14 lead over PSU with 11:52 left in the half.

    • Indiana starting to catch heat on offense. They’ve made their last six attempts, capped off by a Luke Goode three. 6-8 so far from the field for the Hoosiers.
    • Ballo goes to the bench and in comes Langdon Hatton. He Last appeared in Indiana’s game at Purdue on Jan. 31 and only played three minutes in that game.

Penn State leads 9-8 through the first media timeout. 15:01 left in the half.

    • Yanic Konan Niederhauser has six points to lead PSU. He’s averaged 21.5 points over their last two wins and has put a few nice moves on Ballo.
    • Indiana is 1-4 from the free-throw line to start. Very uncharacteristic two misses from the line for Mgbako, who hits 85% from there on the season.

    PREGAME NOTES

    • Cupps and Newton remain OUT for Indiana. Puff Johnson is OUT for the season for Penn State. Johnson had six points in the first matchup.
    • Hoosiers are sitting on the bubble in ESPN’s latest NCAA Tournament bracket projection. Important for them to leave Purdue in the rearview mirror.
    • Warmups have started and there is no sign of Malik Reneau from my vantage point. Indiana could be without him for the second time against Penn State.
    • Starting lineup: Leal, Galloway, Goode, Mgbako and Ballo. IU looks to be without Reneau tonight.
