———————————————————————–
FINAL: UCLA 72, Indiana 68
SECOND HALF
Mgbako was wide open AGAIN, this time from beyond the arc. Couldn’t hit it. So tough for him, especially considering his great start.
Oh my goodness. Mackenzie Mgbako had the tie and smoked the layup. Possession stays with Indiana. Out of bounds on the baseline with 8.8 seconds left.
Reneau. Count it and the foul. 70-68 with 53 seconds on the clock.
Technical foul on UCLA after a common foul on Leal. Sebastian Mack misses his 1-and-1, and Goode converts both. 70-65 UCLA with 1:05.
IU cuts it to four, 67-63. Leal, Galloway, Mgbako, Goode and Reneau on the floor.
Hoosiers trail 65-59 through the final media timeout. 3:59 on the clock.
- Going to have to have a quicker sense of urgency if you’re Indiana on offense. There were at least two possessions in that last stretch where the ball didn’t move from the top of the key for 20 seconds. Still, IU is four of their last five from the field.
- Looks like the Hoosiers have gone back to a zone on defense, and the adjustment has limited the Bruins. They’re on a two minute scoring drought heading into the timeout.
60-52, UCLA is still ahead with 7:55 left.
- The Hoosiers have certainly had their opportunities, especially when the crowd gets into it. There’ve been a few silencing plays though from the Bruins. Skyy Clark with one just a minute ago as he knocked down a three to quiet the fans.
- IU has not sustained their hot start from out of the half. They’re now shooting 40% from the field in the second.
52-45 Bruins with 11:46 on the clock.
- Indiana has gone a little quiet offensively but has still shot 57% from the floor so far in the half. Luke Goode has been exceptional with 12 points in the half alone.
- UCLA is a really deep team. They’ve used 10 players in their rotation and every player has scored at least one point. 7-foot-3 center Aday Mara and former Illinois guard Skyy Clark lead them with eight apiece.
UCLA’s lead is cut to 42-38 with 15:40 left in the game.
- Great start out of half for the Hoosiers, who are 5-8 from the field and 3-5 from beyond the arc. They’ve outscored the Bruins 13-7, and UCLA is on a field goal drought for the past three minutes.
- Mackenzie Mgbako started the half for the Hoosiers and knocked down his first three within minutes. Safe to say he’s feeling better.
HALFTIME: UCLA 35, Indiana 25
FIRST HALF
UCLA leads 29-20 through the final media timeout. 3:38 on the clock.
- The Hoosiers have started 1-for-8 on their 3-pointers. Trey Galloway was the first to knock one down just a minute ago.
- Mackenzie Mgbako has yet to check back in, but he was seen warming up on the stationary bike by IU’s locker room. He has returned to the bench since.
Media timeout with 7:40 left, Bruins lead 24-15.
- Oumar Ballo broke Indiana’s field goal drought with a layup plus the foul. Couldn’t convert on the free throw though. Hoosiers shooting 31% from the field so far.
- On the flipside, UCLA is up to 50%. Lazar Stefanovic leads their scoring with five, and all but one of their players have scored at least once.
UCLA lead up to 22-13 with 8:59 in the half.
- Bruins’ 6-0 run forces a timeout from Mike Woodson. Hoosiers have missed their last eight from the field.
Bruins take a 16-11 lead with 10:38 left in the half.
- IU’s offense has gone stagnant, with no field goals in the last five and a half minutes. They haven’t made their last six attempts.
- Indiana switched back to a man-to-man defense with Leal and Ballo out and Rice and Reneau in. UCLA hasn’t had any problems with it though. They’re 6-13 from the field so far tonight.
- Mackenzie Mgbako limped after a driving attempt and immediately subbed out. He just went back into IU’s locker room.
Hoosiers lead 10-9 through the first media timeout. 15:16 left on the clock.
- Indiana has come out with the zone that gave MSU fits on Tuesday. They’ve had some success, but UCLA has been able to navigate through it a few times.
- Good start for Mgbako on offense, who has six early points. Two of his buckets have come off of tough drives in the paint. IU has also been able to haul in two early offensive rebounds.
PREGAME NOTES
- There is nothing new on the injury report for IU. Gabe Cupps and Jakai Newton remain OUT.
- Bruins are coming off a snapped seven-game win streak with a loss at Illinois. It’s going to be a competitive one as they try to bounce back.
