Indiana’s 2023-24 season is officially over.
After their 93-66 loss to Nebraska in the Big Ten Tournament quarterfinals in Minneapolis, the Hoosiers will pivot to rebuilding their roster for next season rather than play in the NIT, a source confirmed to The Daily Hoosier.
The Hoosiers will lose Xavier Johnson and Anthony Walker to eligibility, and Kel’el Ware is expected to leave for the NBA Draft. That will leave at least four roster openings for next season before any transfer portal departures.
IU has no class of 2024 commits after 5-star Liam McNeeley was released from his national letter of intent.
The transfer portal opens on Monday. With no further games to prepare for, the staff will be able to turn their full attention to the portal and any high school prospects who reopen their recruitments.
It was recently confirmed Mike Woodson would be back for a fourth season to lead the rebuilding effort.
“This thing is going to come very quickly,” IU coach Mike Woodson said Friday evening of the transfer portal. “We’ve got to be in a position to do our due diligence and our homework on these players.”
Indiana has not played in the NIT since 2019. Their decision to not play in the event this year follows a growing trend that included North Carolina a year ago, and Ole Miss this year.
The Hoosiers finished the season with a 19-14 record.
