A.J. Thomas was an IU commit for all of three months.
The Louisiana-based edge rusher announced on Monday evening he has decided to stay home. He flipped his commitment from Indiana to Tulane.
It’s the second time Thomas changed his mind. He originally committed to Louisiana Tech in April and then switched to Indiana in September.
According to the 247Sports Composite, the 6-foot-3 and 220-pound Thomas is a 3-star prospect, the No. 928 overall player in the class, and the No. 87 edge rusher.
Thomas is the fourth player to decommit from IU’s 2023 class, following Daeh McCullough, Denzel Moore, and Travon West.
The early signing period for the class of 2023 begins on Wednesday.
With eight high school and one junior college commit as of this writing, Indiana is well short of its goal of 12 to 15 for the class. The class currently ranks No. 88 in the country and last in the Big Ten according to 247Sports.
The Hoosiers have had several visitors in the last couple weeks, however, and may pick up a couple high school commitments in the coming days.
Indiana is also aggressively recruiting the junior college and transfer portal ranks to round out its 2023 roster.
