As expected, Indiana’s first loss of the year did not cost them significantly in the national polls.
But the Hoosiers did fall after a 42-35 loss to No. 3 Ohio State on Saturday.
The Hoosiers dropped from No. 10 to 12 in the coaches poll. Ohio State (3), Northwestern (13) and Wisconsin (20) are the only other Big Ten teams in that poll. Next weekend’s opponent Maryland received 13 votes.
Meanwhile in the AP top-25, IU dropped from No. 9 to No. 12. Led by former Indiana quarterback Peyton Ramsey, undefeated Northwestern is No. 11 in the new media poll. Ohio State (3) and Wisconsin (18) are also included.
Indiana has been ranked in the AP top 25 for five straight weeks. That is the longest such streak for the program since 1993.
Maryland kickoff set for noon on Saturday
We finally learned the kickoff time for Indiana’s next game, if it happens.
The Hoosiers are scheduled to host Maryland at noon ET at Memorial Stadium this Saturday. The game will be televised by ESPN 2.
The Terrapins have only played three games this season, forced to cancel their last two games due to the number of COVID-19 cases within the program. Head coach Mike Locksley tested positive for the virus Wednesday and is currently in self-isolation.
Maryland (2-1) opened the season with a blowout loss to Northwestern, but responded with wins over Minnesota and Penn State.
Quarterback Taulia Tagovailoa has emerged with 6 touchdowns and 1 interception over those last two contests.
IU has won the last two meetings and leads the overall series 6-2.
