Multiple sources have confirmed to The Daily Hoosier over the last week that the Indiana football program has filled out the remaining openings on its coaching staff.
Here are the latest updates:
- Jason Jones will be the new safeties coach.
- Former safeties coach Kasey Teegardin will be the new special teams coordinator.
- Kevin Wright will be the new tight ends coach.
JASON JONES
Jones coached the cornerbacks at Florida Atlantic for the 2019 season. FAU led the nation with 22 interceptions in 2019.
Prior to FAU, Jones was the co-defensive coordinator at Ole Miss. Indiana head coach Tom Allen and Jones were both defensive coaches at the same time in Oxford from 2012-14 where they both worked under Dave Wommack, father of current IU defensive coordinator Kane Wommack. Jones was with the Rebel program from 2012 to 2017.
Jones played defensive back for Alabama from 1995-99, and he started his coaching career as a graduate assistant with the Crimson Tide. He also has made coaching stops at Oklahoma State, Rice and Tulsa.
KASEY TEEGARDIN
Teegardin has been the IU safeties coach for each of the last two seasons and will now become the special teams coordinator.
A Hoosiers defensive graduate assistant (2014-16) for three years and director of on-campus recruiting for one campaign (2017), head coach Tom Allen promoted Teegardin on March 2, 2018.
The decision by former IU special teams coordinator William Inge to follow Kalen DeBoer to Fresno State to be their next defensive coordinator created the opening at Indiana.
KEVIN WRIGHT
Filling out new offensive coordinator Nick Sheridan’s staff will be tight ends coach Kevin Wright based on a report by Bruce Feldman of The Athletic. Sheridan held that spot before he was promoted last week.
Wright was previously the head coach at IMG Academy. He compiled a record of 44-2 at the Florida based prep school over five seasons.
Wright has Indiana ties. He was the head coach at Carmel High School from 2010-14. The Greyhounds went 54-11 in his five seasons, reaching the state finals three times.
