Indiana continues to add to its 2026 recruiting class with a Monday evening addition of Pennsylvania-based cornerback Lawrence “Jay” Timmons. He made the call after a weekend visit in Bloomington.
Timmons is the No. 44 overall corner in the 2026 class according to the On3 industry average. The 5-foot-11 and 175-pound Timmons could end up playing safety in college.
He’s a 3-star and the No. 477 player overall in the class. He chose IU over Pittsburgh, Virginia, West Virginia, Maryland, Wisconsin, Iowa, Iowa State, Syracuse and others.
Timmons is the son of former NFL linebacker Lawrence Timmons, who spent a decade with the Pittsburgh Steelers and won a Super Bowl with the franchise based in IU coach Curt Cignetti’s hometown.
As a junior at Pine Richland H.S. in Gibsonia, Pa., Timmons had 33 tackles, 3 tackles for loss, 3 interceptions, 2 forced fumbles, 8 pass break-ups and 3 defensive touchdowns. He also caught 24 passes for 485 yards and four more scores.
His junior season highlights are below.
Timmons is the sixth verbal commit in IU’s rapidly growing 2026 class. Here are the other five:
- Henry Ohlinger, Columbus, Ohio, LB/RB (4-star)
- Kasmir Hicks, Indianapolis, Indiana, CB/WR (3-star)
- Sam Simpson, River Falls, Wisconsin, IOL (3-star)
- Jacob Savage, Union, Kentucky, LB (3-star)
- Rodney White, Towson, Maryland, DL (3-star)
