One of the many things expected to change at Indiana under the direction of new head coach Curt Cignetti was the football uniforms.
And the multi-year tribute to the Bill Mallory era appears to be a thing of the past.
In photos released by the IU football program this week on its social media accounts, the black details from recent years are gone.
Instead, under Cignetti, Indiana is opting for a clean all red and white look.
Cignetti has suggested several times since he was hired by IU he believes having the state in the school name matters. And if one thing is clear with these new uniforms from Adidas, the word “Indiana” is as prominent on the front chest plate as it has ever been. The player numbers appear to be oversized as well.
A few years ago IU made the unpopular decision to remove the player last names from the jerseys. That’s a decision Tom Allen quickly reversed. It appears under Cignetti the player names will be included.
And at least for this particular look, the pants — and the shoes — will be all white, or cream if you prefer.
The uniforms appear to be what Indiana will utilize as their traditional and primary look throughout the season. But under Cignetti, James Madison did wear some alternate uniforms, so we’ll probably see some other styles on occasion.
Helmets were not included in the photos and videos that were released, so fans will be left to wonder about the main style, and if the popular “Block I” or rounded trident will be used going forward, either as a primary or alternate. Helmets seen in and around the football facilities in recent months appear to not have any black details either.
Indiana opens the 2024 season on Aug. 31 at Memorial Stadium against Florida International.
