Indiana picked up a commitment from class of 2023 defensive back Travon West on Wednesday afternoon.
The Piedmont, S.C. 3-star announced the news on his Twitter page after a ceremony at his high school.
“Everybody’s just a family (at Indiana),” West told the Independent Mail in a report after the announcement. “They’re real big on family up there. That’s just somewhere I know that I’ll fit in at for the next three, four years. I won’t ever feel left out because it’s always family over football over there. And I could see a big part of that when I went up there this past weekend.”
The 6-foot and 170-pound West is the No. 94 cornerback in his class according to the 247Sports Composite. He is the No. 1007 overall player in the class according to that same service. He has also been listed as a safety or athlete at various recruiting outlets.
Playing for Wren H.S. in 2021, West recorded 57 tackles, five interceptions, five pass break-ups, two forced fumbles, one sack, one tackle for loss, one QB hurry, and one fumble recovery according to MaxPreps. On special teams he had 19 kick returns for 423 yards and a touchdown, and West added three rushing touchdowns on offense.
Indiana offered West earlier this month and he took an official visit to Bloomington over the weekend. He also had offers from West Virginia, Wake Forest, Virginia Tech, Kansas State, and a host of FCS and Group of Five programs.
West is also a standout member of the track and field team and won the state championship in the 110-meter hurdles this year.
Indiana now has five commits in its 2023 class. West is the second defensive back to commit this week, joining Florida safety Amare Ferrell.
