Indiana landed a new class of 2022 4-star on signing day.
The IU football program announced the signing of Florida based defensive lineman Nick James on its Twitter page.
James is a 4-star recruit, the No. 284 overall player in the 2022 class, and the No. 36 defensive lineman. Originally from Prattville, Alabama, he attends IMG Academy in Bradenton, Fla.
This is how 247Sports Southeast analyst Andrew Ivins evaluated James on his profile page:
“A big man that’s rather light on his feet. Carries 275 pounds better than most. The type of interior lineman that can not only plug gaps, but also make things difficult for a quarterback. Initial burst tends to overwhelm blockers. Uses strong hands to swipe and disengage from contact. Flexible enough to sink his hips and find some leverage. Raw power allows him to anchor and hold his ground vs. double teams, at least at the high school level.”
The 6-foot-2 and 278 pound James had an offer list that included Ohio State, Alabama, South Carolina, Miami, Fla., Michigan, Nebraska, Wisconsin, Auburn, West Virginia, USC, Tennessee, Oregon and Texas A&M.
James visited Indiana in November. Miami, Indiana, South Carolina, Ohio State and Texas A&M were the top five for James in mid-November.
James is Indiana’s 17th signee of the day. As of this writing the Hoosiers’ 2022 class ranks No. 19 nationally and No. 4 in the Big Ten according to the 247Sports Composite. For more on the class, GO HERE.
