Indiana has made a late addition to its recruiting class of 2022 on the traditional national signing day.
Alexandria (La.) High School defensive lineman J’Mari Monette has signed to play in Bloomington for the Hoosiers IU announced on its Twitter page on Wednesday.
According to the 247Sports Composite, Monette is a 3-star prospect, the No. 1139 overall player in the class of 2022 and the No. 139 defensive lineman.
“He’s a big, athletic defensive lineman,” Tom Allen said of Monette on Wednesday. “Played defensive end in high school, played a little inside, we expect him to be a three-technique. Just a big athlete is how I would describe him. I love his character, love the kind of young man that he is. He fits with us.”
He was named All-District 2-5A as a senior, and posted 48 tackles, one sack, and four tackles for loss as a junior. Monette led Alexandria to a runner-up finish in the Louisiana High School Athletic Association 5A state football playoff in 2020.
Indiana first offered Monette in March and he visited in December. The 6-foot-4 and 280 pound Monette also had offers from Texas, Baylor, Memphis, Mississippi State, Missouri, SMU and Tulane.
Monette becomes the 21st high school player who will join the IU program in 2022. As of this writing IU’s 2022 high school class ranks No. 21 nationally and No. 4 in the Big Ten.
