BLOOMINGTON, Ind. – Indiana defeated Washington at sold out Memorial Stadium Saturday afternoon by a final score of 31-17.
Below are three quick reasons why the Hoosiers won, highlights and final stats.

THREE QUICK REASONS
1. Defense makes splash plays. Indiana cornerback D’Angelo Ponds set the tone in the first quarter with a 67-yard interception return for a touchdown. It was one of two first half interceptions by the sophomore. The Hoosiers added three sacks and six tackles for loss. The Hoosiers held Washington to 318 yards, and limited them to 3-of-11 on third down.
2. Running game in control. With starting quarterback Kurtis Rourke sidelined, Indiana needed to lean more on the running game. And the offensive line and backs responded. The Hoosiers ran 52 times for 188 yards. Justice Ellison had 123 of those yards. Indiana ran 52 times vs. 19 pass attempts as backup quarterback Tayven Jackson struggled to find consistency.
3. Big return seals it. Myles Price made a mistake in the second half when he let a punt land rather than catching it, and it rolled down to the 2-yard line. That put the IU offense in a big hole. But on his next chance, Price returned a fourth quarter punt 65 yards to the Washington 14. The Hoosiers scored moments later to take a decisive 31-14 lead.
