Hoosier fans might have a soft spot for her, but Aaliyah Guyton won’t be adored in Simon Skjodt Assembly Hall like her father.
She’ll be suiting up for the enemy.
Ranked the No. 57 player in ESPN’s 2024 rankings, the daughter of former IU men’s basketball great A.J. Guyton is headed to Iowa.
The 5-foot-7 guard scored 21.6 points as a junior at Peoria High. She added 4.6 rebounds and 3.8 assists while leading her team to a third place finish in Class 3A.
Despite the obvious connection, Indiana never seemed to get seriously involved in Aaliyah’s recruitment.
She chose Iowa from a final five teams that included Illinois, Nebraska, Michigan State and Pittsburgh.

The Iowa and Indiana women’s programs have become intense rivals over the last few years as the Hoosiers have emerged as one of the top teams in the Big Ten. The teams split a pair of regular season games last season. IU won the regular season Big Ten title and Iowa won the league tournament.
A.J. Guyton was All-Big Ten in 1998 and 2000 at IU, Big Ten Most Valuable Player in 2000 and Big Ten Freshman of the Year in 1997. He was honored as an All-American in 2000 and led the Big Ten in scoring that same season, averaging 19.7 points per game. He scored 2,100 points in his Indiana career.
