BORDEN, Ind. — After undergoing an offseason procedure related to a meniscus in his knee, Indiana men’s basketball guard Trey Galloway is recovering.
The surgery was related to his injury suffered during IU’s regular-season finale against Michigan State. He missed the rest of that game after the injury as well as the Big Ten Tournament.
IU head coach Mike Woodson addressed Galloway’s status on Wednesday at Indiana’s annual event at Huber Winery and Vineyards in southern Indiana.
“He’s going through rehab. He’s not ready to play yet on the floor, but we’re hoping and thinking he’s going to be back and ready to go when the season starts,” Woodson said. “So we’ve just got to continue to — we’ve got eight weeks here coming up at the start of June 3, well into July, and hopefully by then, he’ll be ready to play.”
The 6-foot-4 guard from Culver, Ind. started all 31 games for Indiana in 2023-24. He was one of four IU players to appear in all 20 Big Ten games. Galloway averaged career bests in points (10.6), assists (4.6), steals (1.2), and minutes (33.4) per game in his fourth season with the program.
Galloway was the first Hoosier since Isiah Thomas (1980-81) to have multiple 12-plus assist games in a single season. He closed Big Ten play with 105 total assists, tied for the second most in program history.
This is not Galloway’s first significant injury during his time at IU.
He missed 15 games during his 2021-22 sophomore campaign due to two different injuries – a fractured wrist, and a groin injury that required surgery. He also missed two games during his freshman season, and three during his junior campaign due to minor injuries.
